Michael W. Abbott Producer/Director of WAXAPPLES "So Close, So Far"
Michael W. Abbott is a Los Angeles based Producer & Director of Motion Pictures, Documentaries, Unscripted Television, Branded Content and Music Festival Live Streaming Original Content.
Films which he has produced have premiered at some of the top film festivals in the world, including Sundance and Cannes and become some of the most watched films on Netflix, Showtime, Hulu and Amazon. Abbott’s unique story and character-driven focus would empower him to produce and direct long form, award-winning and highly visible branded content for companies such as GM/Cadillac, Namco Bandai Games, Marriott/Renaissance, Microsoft, and Warby Parker. Abbott would take a similar approach to music videos, approaching them as music-driven short films for artists such as One Direction and Paul McCartney to garner views in the hundreds of millions on YouTube.
Most recently, Abbott helped create Weekend Two’s “Coachella Curated” Live Stream for Coachella and YouTube as its lead Director, Writer and Producer while also Senior Producing Weekend One’s Coachella Live Stream. The two weekends would go on to break all YouTube and Coachella live stream records with 117 Million Live Views which “Coachella Curated” surpassing Beyonce’s record-setting Coachella Live Stream with 48 million live viewers. Abbott is currently in pre-production on the motion picture “The War of 84” at Netflix, producing the film with Screen Arcade (“Narcos”) from an original story by Abbott & Andrew Weiss (“White Boy Rick”).
A Los Angeles native, Abbott attended the University of Southern California’s School of Cinema-Television, with an emphasis on Critical Studies. He was honored twice with the Cinema-Television School’s Mary Pickford Award for academic excellence and was bestowed the University’s Senior Recognition Award upon graduation.
